Im sitting here in my room, its about 11:30, and i just got home from dinner at California Pizza Kitchen and basically loitering at Southpark Mall for hours talking with Hannah, Libba, Izzy, and Ben. Alexi Murdoch is on iTunes...the guy who did most of the Away We Go soundtrack. Caki and Sandy are passes on the growing pile of clothes that cover my room's floor space. Yes, slowly but surely my floor is disappearing. But, surprisingly, Sandy and Caki still find a spot perfect for a late night nap.Throughout these two weeks, people have come and gone and finally a few folks are coming home for at least a few days. But the dogs have always been here and they are completely fine about it. Their life is the epitome of simplicity; happy with a few pats on the head, a walk every once in a while, and a microscopic spot on the clothes-covered floor to pass out on.I think thats what i like about them so much, they don't need a lot to be happy. But today, before making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, we found out that dogs also need a treat or two. Im in the dining room watching the Ghana-Uruguay game and I hear my dad ask "Where did the rye bread go? This is the second loaf!" Well, what he doesn't know and hopefully won't find out is that i came in the house earlier in the day and found a bunch of plates on the ground. I had remembered from a while back that you said Sandy had a knack of jumping on counters and stealing things. But I didn't think much of the plates splattered around on the floor and thought that she was just looking around the counters. Turns out two loaves of the rye bread have gone missing. They were on the counter. We found the plastic wrap in the end. Wonder who the culprit was? Oh well. haha.. life goes on even without rye bread. I know it is hard to believe. That was the big news of the day... Pretty average day in Charlotte. Except the weather was absolutely brilliant. High in the low 80's, with sunset temperature around 75 or so. It was beautiful. Hope the drive back is great! I know sandy will be very happy to see you and hear about your trip (because you tell your dog everything..right?) As will I. Until tomorrow. g'night.

I think Sandy has a crush on Clancey. But, unfortunately, Clancey is playing hard to get. Or just annoyed at the taller, younger dog trying to play with him 24/7.

My dad agrees.

Thats all.

When arriving home from orientation last night, half asleep, the only direction i wanted to go was towards my bedroom. But first, it seemed as if there were moving obstacles placed around the house that kept me from visiting dreamland finally and my own bed. They all had tails and were happy to see us home. I loved the greeting, but couldn't really do much considering I could already imagine the pillow behind my head and the comforter enveloping me as I fall into sleep mode. But surely enough I was woken this morning (count them) three times by caki and sandy like it was christmas morning and they were ready to see all their presents. But no presents and no getting me to rise...until around 9:30. Anyways, it's nice to be home again. I missed the doghouse. (yeah, i know it was only 3 days...but im trying to be positive about being back in charlotte.) Orientation was a lot of fun minus the boring sessions that told us things we already knew. Don't walk alone at night. Studying Abroad is a smart decision. Drinking is illegal. Registering for classes is hard. The list goes on. Nevertheless, I did learn a lot of information and met some great people..some who are just as weird as me. I was even lucky to have a good roommate..she was one of the people i hung out the most with. (This isn't my roommate for next year...) We registered for classes and then orientation was over. I got some of the classes i wanted but the thing that made me really happy was only one 50 minute class on friday. YES! Anyways i'll leave some details out so i have something to say later (hah). After orientation was over and i was all checked out of my room, we went over to my aunts house for Lars's birthday dinner. It was absolutely delicious with red snapper and a mango chutney and some kind of exotic vegetable. We shared funny stories of Poppy/Faf (my grandfather) and Louis (my uncle), ate a lot, and wished Lars a happy 29th. Then as I was falling asleep on the birthday pie, we decided to head home. I might add, since this is somewhat of a "dog" blog...they have an awesome dog named Hank and the coolest cat...Ronny. (And I'm not a cat person).
But again, this is Sandy's blog so we'll go back to charlotte with Sandy Caki and Clancey.

At the moment Sandy and Caki are barking at absolutely nothing, while Caki shakes the bed with her low, billowing bark. It's finally rainy, so maybe the temperatures will cool down a bit. I still am trying to take a trip to the mountains this week...if not i'll have to take Sandy and company to visit and prowl around the mountain, pond, etc. I think she would love it up there. If i get my act together, i'll try to go thursday friday or saturday. Caki and Sandy seem to be getting along fine now. They really are the same dog in different forms/ages. Everything seems great on the dog front!

When we arrived home, I did happen to see that we had an addition to the random things on our refrigerator. I didn't mention earlier, when speaking about wallace newman, that he has a huge sense of humor. So we arrived to a beautiful picture of his sweet face pasted on our fridge. Looking at the picture, you may feel like we left the dogs in the wrong hands..but worry not. They are doing quite well. Sandy has calmed down a bit but still follows me around everywhere (love it.). She is such a sweetie and hasn't caused any trouble. She mighhhttttttt be very sad if ya'll decided to stay in maine for the rest of the summer, however. Either way, every post on the whitehead family blog sounds amazing and I don't blame you for wanting to stay there forever. You're obviously having an amazing time and I'll be looking out for what happens next in Maine! As usual, until next time.

I have just come home from visiting Jamie and watching Fly Away home at his house (GREAT movie) and as usual Im sitting here, in my room, wondering what Im going to write that could ever come close to what ya'll have experienced...as usual I come close to nothing but still am satisfied. Even though caki clancey and sandy aren't the greatest of friends (I feel like they would be if they were on opposite sides of the fence), I think Sandy likes their company. It also allows me to leave the and not feel bad for leaving her alone. So. I'll ramble on about my day now, not using any sort of transition words or correct punctuation..but you get the gist. As I am doing this Sandy is taking a peek inside my closet, scary...for her) Anyways, my dad and I left the house early to go look for something at Best Buy, therefore the dogs were left to fend for themselves. I guess, it went alright because the house is intact. I was gone for most of the day because I had to work. Yes i know, gasp, Ainslie Perlmutt worked today.. It was quite the experience. Catering is fun, but apparently today was slow and the wedding? Well, I probably wouldn't have wanted to go. I met new "La-Tea-Da's" workers, cleaned some tables, shared stories of people not giving up their plates with absolutely no food on them at all, and then i was home free. But overall I enjoyed it. Of course, the Whitehead Manor was brought up in conversation because EVERYONE knows you guys(and, I mean, they are caterers.) But this blog is about the dog...not me. So ill continue on about your adorable labordoodle, Today we had our first somewhat fight, everyone was all excited and Sandy stepped over clancey and next minute they are growling, After a few minutes a part everything was back to normal. No. Big. Deal. Sandy has definitely become more comfortable with the house (I feel as if i say this every post but whats another time? ) Walks have been a little less as my dad and I have had actual things to do; however, she still gets a lot of running around time in our backyard. She is a lot like our old dog, Muggsy; she can't make a decision on whether to stay outside or come back in. Therefore, the door is constantly opening and closing. But that's alright. I go to orientation on Monday (My dad is coming with..) and my mom is in Chatauqua (spelling?) so our neighbors, the Newman's are going to take care of the dogs for a night or so. Don't worry Sandy (and caki/clancey) is in good hands. They know more about dogs than anyone else i know. (I believe they have had seven at one time) They asked all the essential questions: "What's your dogs schedule? Should i turn on and off lights?"(those really aren't essential, that's just how into they are)"Can we bring treats?" "Where do they sleep" etc. Basically, they know what they are doing. They should probably just have a doggy daycare at their house. I think that's about it.
The Barnes Museum(?) sounds amazing, as does Philly. I've never visited there before. All the pictures are gorgeous and the camping looks really fun. Marshmellows with chocolate on the inside? Beautiful. I hope cape cod was wonderful... and I'll just have to show the ring game in charlotte (if we can hook it up...i think we still have the one hugh gave us 4 years ago). That game is really all you are missing in Martha's Vineyard, anyways. So don't be disappointed. (haha) Can't wait to hear what happens next! Until Next time. Oh and we are ALL on top of my bed now. hope it doesn't break. Wow..its late. 'night.

All I can say is that I think Sandy gets cuter everyday.
And I hope she doesn't mind thunderstorms...I think she does. :(

Hope the trip is going well! If you happen to visit the Outermost Inn.... make sure you ask Hugh or Jeanie about the ring game--it's probably the greatest game ever invented. And check out his blue firetruck he got off of ebay. (As well as the beaches, cliffs, lighthouse, and other important things.) Oh and there is a really good ice cream shop in town..if i remember correctly (you could add it to your list).

Sandy is doing amazing. No complaints. Last night I let her sleep on my bed. She slept right next to me and was looking a bit uncomfortable (not really), so naturally I gave her one of my pillows. Basically, we spooned. too far? I hope no one else ever reads this...only a few know my actual obsession with dogs and wouldn't think that is creepy. ANYWAYS...before i scare anyone, goodnight.

oh yeah....SHESSSS BACKKKKKK. But they seem to be doing fine. I think the house just got warmer with all the breathing going on. All three are residing in my room at the moment: Sandy walking around, Caki lying on the floor, and Clancey in his usual spot under the bed. This is gonna be a good 'ol time. Oh! Clancey is coming out of his hiding spot...Sandy chases after him. Okay, not a sports commentator. I have been watching too much of the World Cup/Tennis/College World Series. BYE.

Sorry the posts are so short. There hasn't been much excitement lately, just lots of long walks. Sandy seems to have gotten used to the Perlmutt house which makes me happy. We have a big loop around the neighborhood that goes into two other neighborhoods that creates a perfect walking destination. Sandy get a walk around that at least once a day and if she is lucky, twice. We still can't seem to get her to lie down (unless it's on the couch...or the couch pillows) but she seems content with her stay. Next week more people are in town, so we might make a trip to the mountains (we includes Sandy of course). If not a trip to the mountains, i might take her to a dog park just to see what its like.
Today Sandy and I watched the USA Algeria game. We both celebrated after, running around the house screaming..yes its true. You have quite the soccer fan on your hands. I did the terrible and tried to dress sandy up in red white and blue to take a picture...but of course she wouldn't let me. (I wouldn't have either). But nevertheless, we were both excited. After the game, I went over to my mom's to check on the Caki and Clancey. Sandy had the house to herself for most of the day, and when I returned she was gone....with my dad...on a walk.

Today we took a long walk around the neighborhood. Sandy then decided to find possibly the most comfortable spot on the couch, which was barely on the couch. Pretty lazy day.

This morning I woke up with Sandy jumping on my bed to say good morning. It was 7:50, not the usual wakeup time for summer. But, nevertheless, I was happy considering the day before it was around 6:30 after a night of whining and crate escapes. After about an hour of scratching at the crate door and 3 moves of it, I finally gave in and allowed Sandy to sleep on my bed. She was out in about 2 minutes, so was I. Can't say I wasn't a little worried about sleeping, but to my surprise the next night Sandy went straight to bed in her crate. Yesterday I left to go visit Jamie for his one day back in Charlotte, as well as have dinner with my dad to celebrate Father's Day. Therefore, the dogs were at home together for longer. Upon arriving back home I was happy to see the house wasn't on fire and happier to see that the dogs seemed to be getting along...a little more. Earlier Caki and Sandy played with the tennis balls (I thought it might make them better friends, it only created more competition.) While Caki trotted after the ball, Sandy leaped off the porch and sprinted towards it. However, Caki is a better "finder" of it, so whenever the tennis ball became hidden she would win. Wow, I'm describing a game of fetch, don't laugh. Either way, day 2 was much better. Clancey and Caki went over to the Cloisters last night, so Sandy has the house to herself. This might explain why she was happy to sleep in her crate last night. And this morning, my dad took Sandy for a walk; they are quickly becoming pals. He calls her "Sandra" because the haircut suits the name better. She doesn't seem to mind. Alright, I feel like I have written every possible thing to write about a day, in Charlotte, with a dog in the house so until next time! Looks like the trip is off to a great start...my mom and I were very happy to hear that you were taking the CBBT and visiting Assateague. On another note, a very small one, I played Hearts last night on the computer and didn't have the most points for once. THANKS. Okay, really, I'm done.

Well, looks like Caki is a little jealous of the new member. But all in all everything went smoothly today. She was sad to see you leave this afternoon, but after a while she began to calm down. We have forgotten what it was like to have a puppy in our house as Caki gets older. We took her for a walk, but mainly just hung out today. Clancey is doing better than I thought, however, so thats good news. Caki and Sandy will just have to get situated with each other. No big news though. Sandy at the moment is trying to make an escape from her crate...and one of the nobs has fallen off..? Any ideas to make her feel more at home? Hope the first day is off to a good start, until tomorrow.

Before (1)

The Whitehead Family is heading North. They are taking their ‘85 Vannigan and lets all hope it holds :) Yet, one member is left with me in Charlotte—Sandy. Sister to Austin and Leah, she walks on four legs, barks at every car, and greets you with a big, sloppy lick on the face. Basically, I can’t wait. She’ll be keeping me occupied for a couple of weeks as most of Charlotte seems to be heading out of town. I'll quit it with the "high school English paper" language soon enough, and ill begin to ramble on about the random and maybe less than exciting things we do. But the life of a dog is always exciting so I'll try and make her stay in the Perlmutt house a good one. Tomorrow she'll be reunited with her bud Caki and hopefully they will get along as much as they did last time. Until then, who knows what will take place, but this blog is to let you know what your best friend is doing while you’re away.
